STINSON BEACH (AP) ― A shark sighting is keeping people out of the waters at Stinson Beach.
Park spokesman Rich Weideman says a surfer spotted a shark -- possibly a great white -- about 125 yards offshore yesterday. The shark was 8 to 10 feet long and north of the beach's main lifeguard tower.
Officials say the waters will remain off-limits until Friday.
Weideman says the last shark sighting was in the spring. He says the sightings prompt an automatic three-day water closing, as sharks generally spend several days feeding in an area. The park service is closing the waters for an extra two days this time.
